Nintendo’s New Game Gets Fit
A video game that won’t turn you into an Ore-Ida potato! What a concept!
Nintendo has just announced its new fitness game Wii Fit - due to arrive in the first half of 2008.
Wii Fit’s control device will be a balance board that allows players to control what happens on-the screen with the input from the movement of their body. In a soccer game, for example, a player stands on the board shifting their weight in order to control the soccer ball. Other games will involve step aerobics, yoga and other balancing activities.
With Wii Fit, instead of your fingers simply working joystick buttons - you actually “become” the player on the screen. Forget that Virtual stuff, now you’re playing with Reality!
Added bonus: the balance board can calculate body mass index and your center of gravity which the company says can help players make improvements to their weight and posture.
Obviously, Wii Fit is not a replacement for a good old-fashioned bike ride or a game of pick-up basketball. And I am kind of conflicted about the whole yoga video game scenario. But if you or your kids are video junkies, I say time to get off your bum and give Wii Fit a try!
Love ya,
