Nutrition: The Key To Unlocking A Healthy, Beautiful You

Whether you are looking to increase stamina and fitness, fend off aging and disease or just fit into a pair of skinny-jeans, good nutrition is the key.
I’d love to be able to tell you that I became interested in nutrition because of my burning desire to become a healthier human being. But the truth is, as a fitness model, I was tired of ass-busting workouts and tiny, low-calorie, low-fat meals, which still weren’t getting me the body I wanted.
Convinced that deprivation was not the solution, I began honing a nutrition plan that drew from the most knowledgeable leaders in the nutritional field – Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Nicholas Perricone, and Dr. Mehmet Oz, to name a few. I also incorporated nutritional pointers I had gathered through the years from top personal trainers and nutritionists.
Results came fast and furious - a leaner, more toned physique, thicker, shiner hair and glowing skin. I also became accustomed to what it feels like to actually “exude energy.”
But before this becomes an “All About Me” episode, let me tell you why all this matters to YOU.
What I am going to share with you is the simple truism that has changed my life. Here it is: Nutrition, health and beauty are completely interconnected.
That’s it! Make nutrition a priority in your life and all the other pieces fall into place.
Still fuzzy? Okay, here’s the bottom line - our bodies are not designed to metabolize Twinkies, Doritoes or deep dish, stuffed-crust pizza. If they were, we’d be a nation of supermodels instead of a society where obesity is rampant.
I can relate - sifting through an onslaught of conflicting information from food manufacturers and self-proclaimed diet guru’s just out to make a buck is disheartening. But you don’t need to be burdened with gibberish anymore - just stick with the truth, which is that good nutrition – from real food, with real nutrients (fat included!) is all you need!
I won’t lie, following a really quality nutrition plan is not always easy. But let’s deal with these two challenges right now.
First, is peer pressure: “Come on Sally, EVERYONE is having a double cheeseburger with fries and a milkshake. What, are you on a DIET or something?” Sound familiar?
Second problem is marketing ploys designed to make you salivate and then lead you astray with misleading claims of nutrition. Ever get excited about a “reduced sugar” cereal? Reduced from what? Usually, i’ts from a whopping 20 grams of sugar to something like 12 or 15. Not good. Or, how about the 200 calorie trick? Often a 200 calorie serving of a processed food doesn’t amount to the lump of stuff you toss in the Chihuahua’s bowl.
I’m not going to mess around here - tough love is the only way to go with regard to these particular stumbling blocks: Get past it!
Sure, it can be difficult to say “no” to a co-worker who coaxes you to devour yet another Starbucks scone. But try thinking about it this way: Do you really want to look like the Lumpy Lucy who is cheering you on so vigorously? I say, let HER eat another biscuit – more for her!
And as for tempting commercials and ads, your job is to think of those products as what they are –garbage that ages and rots your body. Or, consider the wise words of Dr. Oz , “do you really want to pay for something that makes you old?”
Please don’t forget, I am here, in your corner. Every day, one of my posts will encourage and cheer you in the RIGHT nutritional direction (unlike Lumpy Luce, I am not eating scones so I don’t need to convince someone to eat them with me). I’ll show you what nutrition really is - a gift of health and beauty that you can give to yourself.
I’m excited to introduce you to the simple changes and substitutions that will increase your health and enhance your life. And get you in those hot-girl jeans.
Love,
HS

I certainly had my share of peer pressure.
We have friends that encourage and reminds us to be aware of what we eat, but there are also some that wants us to be normal and be like everybody else.
